His Book
Bill’s book on yoga, “A Journey into Being, Practising Yoga from Within,” describes how a sensitive and intelligent yoga practice – that’s teaching us how to become more flexible, more grounded, and more comfortable in our bodies – can naturally transform into being a meditative journey as well, helping us to cultivate more presence, embodiment, and deep relaxation inside ourselves.
Inspired by the work of the late Vanda Scaravelli, this accessible guide to the practice – written by someone with over 30 years of teaching experience – serves as an introduction for people new to this approach, as a practice companion for existing students, or as part of a broader discussion for anyone exploring the edges of where mindful movement and contemplative practice might meet.
being responsive
practising yoga
helps us to become stronger
and more flexible
but that process will bear even more fruit
if accompanied by a deeper unwinding from within
so we’re continually drawing our attention
away from how the poses might appear
and focusing instead on how they feel…..
and on how we can then best respond to that
being gentle
backing away
loosening
enlivening
then settling again
with every adjustment being made
not to achieve any external goal
not to get ‘further’ into the pose
but to feel more grounded
and more at ease
and to be increasingly absorbed
in the experience of that
